Clint Morse - piano
Clint Morse is mostly self-taught. He got hooked on music at the age of six, when his father, a former bass player and singer, brought him home a cornet. His music career was interrupted when he left the cornet out in the yard and his grandfather ran over it with a lawn mower. (He swears it was accidental.) He took the usual piano lessons as a child, and played trombone in the high school band. By his senior year, he had learned to play all the instruments in the band in addition to piano: guitar, mandolin, banjo, and string bass.
He began playing gigs at the age of 15 with a square-dance band, and has been
playing professionally ever since. Clint studied jazz piano with Bobby
Pierce, and composition and arranging with Dave Wheeler. He has been in many
bands around Columbus, such as Howdy Gorman, The Graduates, Freedom Sound,
Timeless, and Bone-fide Swing. He also performs often with many other bands.
He has performed with Pat O'Brien, Margaret Whiting, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra,
Myron Floren, Cab Calloway's daughter Chris, and has toured with the Stars of
Lawrence Welk. He has written arrangements for all the groups he has belonged
to, including Kelly Crum Delaveris. Some of his orchestrations have been
performed by the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Clint has had his choir
compositions published.
Clint has many varied interests. He has taught students from Japan and Pakistan how to speak English. He taught high-school mathematics, and was an elementary school principal and the director of curriculum for London City Schools. He was an assistant high school football coach. He helped his contractor build his house in 1997, from pouring the footer to finishing the interior. He loves to play golf, but doesn't claim to be any good at it.
What he takes the most pride in, and gains the most pleasure from in life, is his family.
